seeking: others who are interested in the human-animal connection as well as animal science, particularly those who like to read!

since moving to the suburbs, i've slowly been meeting neighbors. it started as looking for clients, and now that my calendar is well booked, i can shift my focus to growing community!

so i've started a NON-FICTION book club which really has its perks!

you typically can't spoil a non-fiction book

while i'd love for everyone who attends discussions to be excited for a conversation about the subject matter, i also don't want to deter anyone who didn't finish the book.

i know life can get busy, and i know that non-fiction books can be difficult for some people to follow when they get into the science terms of it all.

the goal isn't to submit an essay paper, but to meet neighbors and potential friends! understand the animals around us a bonus!

this isn't just for pet parents!

i chose the term "animal lovers" very consciously! this group is not restricted to people who have pets in their home. again, why limit who we can meet! and it's not just about pets!

it's more than cats and dogs

our latest read was "inside of a dog" by alexandra horowitz, and oprah winfrey released an interview with alexandra horowitz the same week as our book discussion!

our current read is "the lion in the living room" by abigail tucker

the delaware county libraries have SIX copies available, two in large print!

you can also purchase the book, audiobook, or ebook through bookshop.org which ships directly to you and sends the sale to a physical book shop of your choice!

i recommend Bookish Notions in Media or Celia Bookshop in Swarthmore!

prefer that good ol' secondhand book smell? there are copies on Thrift Books!

while i love to help pet parents understand the canine or the feline that lives with them,

i also want to explore animals we don't often think about.

our first read was "in the shadow of man" by jane goodall. this book is a great peek into the life of jane goodall, the adventure that started it all for her! before reading this, i didn't know she had zero college education and was in her early 20's when she was presented with the opportunity to study chimps in Africa!

one discussion question was "what were you doing in your early 20s?!"

i'm hoping that after our cat read, we can read about something found in the ocean?

how do i join?

you can join our discussion at the Ridley Township Library common area on the last Wednesday of the month; 100 E Macdade Blvd, Folsom, PA 19033

i chose this spot so we can meet indoors despite any inclement weather, and so no one felt pressured to buy anything like they might if we met at a restaurant.

also, if you have kids, they can entertain themselves in the library while we chat!

as we grow our group, we can discuss alternate locations!

Discussions are every other month, our next one being June 24, 6-8pm.

this is a come and go environment so if you can't be there at 6 or you can't still until 8, please feel welcome to join when you can!

i'd love to see photos of where you are reading!

you can post those and any questions or reactions to the books in our Facebook group:

don't live in DelCo? no problem! join our facebook group and read along!

what book should we read next? share your choice in the comments!
